These two terms look alike, but they describe two completely different things. Confusing them makes you pay for something you don't need, or skip something you do need.

Definitions

A dedicated IP (Dedicated IP) is an address: an identifier assigned only to you, which nobody else uses.

A dedicated server (Dedicated Server) is a machine: the hardware (or the full resources of a server), including processor, RAM, disk, and bandwidth, that is at your disposal alone.

A simple example: a dedicated IP is like a personal license plate. A dedicated server is like the car itself. You can have a personal plate and still share your car with others.

Comparison table

Dedicated IP Dedicated server
What is it? An address A machine and resources
Main purpose Identity and reputation of the address Power, control, and performance
Cost Usually lower Usually higher
Control over software None Usually complete
Suited to Accounts, whitelisting, fewer restrictions Heavy hosting, full control

Why does a dedicated IP matter?

  • The reputation of the address is affected only by your own behavior.
  • Familiar sign-ins and fewer security alerts
  • The possibility of a reliable Whitelist
  • Fewer CAPTCHAs and blocks than shared, heavily used addresses

Why does a dedicated server matter?

  • Guaranteed resources: because nobody shares your node, you don't experience performance drops caused by other people's load.
  • Full control over configuration and software
  • Better isolation from a security standpoint
  • Suited to heavy or sensitive workloads

One important point

A dedicated IP does not necessarily mean a dedicated server. The IP may belong only to you, while the resources of the server it sits on are divided among several people. The reverse can happen too: you have a dedicated server but still have to ask about its address.

Which one should I choose?

  1. I only want my address to be clean, stable, and exclusively mine → a dedicated IP is enough.
  2. I need to run a heavy application or service and want full control → a dedicated server.
  3. Both matter → ask for both and question the seller clearly.
