What Do No-Log and No-KYC Mean? The Two Pillars of Privacy
On this page 5
Open almost any VPN page and you will see two phrases almost every time: No-Log and No-KYC. They are not just marketing slogans, but they are not everything either. Let's understand precisely what each one promises and what it does not.
What does No-Log mean?
No-Log (no logging) means the provider does not record and store your online activity. Usually this means:
- The sites you have opened are not recorded.
- The content of your traffic is not stored.
- The link between your real address and your activity is not saved.
Why does it matter?
If nothing is recorded, there is also nothing to leak, to misuse or to hand over to a third party. Data that does not exist cannot be disclosed.
Limits of the No-Log promise
- No service has zero data. To deliver a service, at least account and payment information is required.
- No-Log is a provider's claim. Its credibility rises with a transparent privacy policy, a track record and (at best) an independent audit.
- It matters that the service says exactly what it keeps.
What does No-KYC mean?
KYC stands for Know Your Customer: a process in which identity documents such as a national ID card, a passport or a selfie photo are collected from you.
No-KYC means that no identity documents are needed to sign up and buy.
Why does it matter?
- Less personal data is stored somewhere that may one day leak.
- Faster sign-up and without hassle
- In line with the overall privacy philosophy: “the least data possible”
The difference between the two
| No-Log | No-KYC | |
|---|---|---|
| What is it about? | Your activity while using | Your identity when signing up |
| What is not recorded? | Sites and traffic | Identity documents |
| When does it take effect? | While using | When buying |
The two are complementary. A No-Log VPN that asks for identity documents has done only half of the job; and so has a No-KYC VPN that keeps logs.
What do they not guarantee?
Let's be honest:
- A VPN does not make you completely anonymous. Sites you log into with your own account know who you are.
- The payment method leaves traces too. Paying by card or bank leaves a different trace than crypto.
- Device security and your own behaviour (passwords, phishing, malware) still matter.
What does BlendIn VPN say?

There is also no identity verification (KYC) step: you sign up, choose a plan and pay. Payment methods include wallet, card and cryptocurrency.
