v2rayN on Linux: Setup Guide
On this page 8
v2rayN has an official Linux version with a graphical interface, and the Xray and sing-box cores are bundled inside the package.
Supported distributions (according to the project Wiki): Debian 12+, Ubuntu 22.04+, Fedora 36+, Red Hat 9+ Prerequisite: a config link or subscription from your service provider.
Step 1: Download from the official source
Open the latest stable release (7.25.4 at the time of writing) on github.com/2dust/v2rayN/releases.
| System | File |
|---|---|
| Debian/Ubuntu, x64 | v2rayN-linux-64.deb |
| Debian/Ubuntu, ARM64 | v2rayN-linux-arm64.deb |
| Fedora/Red Hat, x64 | v2rayN-linux-rhel-x64.rpm |
| Fedora/Red Hat, ARM64 | v2rayN-linux-rhel-arm64.rpm |
| Portable (any distro) | v2rayN-linux-64.zip or v2rayN-linux-arm64.zip |
Each file has a .sig file for signature verification. If you wish, check its authenticity before installing.
Step 2: Installation
Debian / Ubuntu:
bash sudo apt install -y ./v2rayN-linux-64.deb
Fedora / Red Hat:
bash sudo dnf install -y ./v2rayN-linux-rhel-x64.rpm
Zip version (portable):
bash unzip v2rayN-linux-64.zip -d v2rayN cd v2rayN chmod +x v2rayN ./v2rayN
The deb/rpm versions store their files in the user's standard paths. The zip version keeps everything next to itself.
Step 3: Running
- After installing the deb or rpm, launch the app from the applications menu or with the v2rayN command in a terminal.
- If you want to use TUN mode, the app needs root access.
Step 4: Adding a config
- Copy the vless://... link.
- Press Ctrl+V in the app window, or choose add from clipboard from the Servers menu.
- For a subscription, create a group with the subscription URL in Subscription group setting and update it.
Step 5: Connecting
- Double-click the server.
- Choose System proxy or TUN mode.
- If you use System proxy, make sure your desktop environment (GNOME, KDE and so on) respects the system proxy settings. Otherwise you can set the app's local proxy (for example SOCKS on 127.0.0.1) directly in the browser or app. See the exact port in the app settings.
Step 6: Testing
- Check your IP on a test site.
- Check for DNS and IPv6 leaks.
Alternatives on Linux
| Tool | Note |
|---|---|
| Hiddify | The Hiddify-Linux-x64.AppImage, Hiddify-Debian-x64.deb and Hiddify-rpm-x64.rpm files (v4.1.1, March 2026). Simple interface with multi-core support. |
| v2rayA | Web interface for V2Ray/Xray; better suited to servers and advanced users. |
| Nekoray | Discontinued. Its successors are NekoBox and Throne. |
Troubleshooting common problems
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| App does not start | Run it with v2rayN in a terminal and look at the error; check the graphical dependencies. |
| System proxy has no effect | Check the desktop proxy settings manually or set the local proxy in the app. |
| TUN does not connect | Run with root access and close any other VPN. |
| An old config does not work | allowInsecure is not supported; get a new config. |
