v2rayN is the most popular graphical Xray client for Windows. The Xray and sing-box cores come inside the package, and you work with it without the command line.

Prerequisite: Windows 10 or later, and a config link (for example vless://...) or a subscription link (Subscription) from your provider.

Step 1: Download from the official source

  1. Go to the official page: github.com/2dust/v2rayN/releases
  2. Open the latest stable release (at the time of writing: 7.25.4).
  3. Grab one of these two files (for ordinary x64 processors):
    • v2rayN-windows-64-desktop.zip: Avalonia interface, recommended for getting started
    • v2rayN-windows-64.zip: WPF interface
    • If you have an ARM laptop: v2rayN-windows-arm64-desktop.zip
  4. Extract the zip file into a fixed folder (for example D:\v2rayN). The zip version is portable and needs no installation.

⚠️ Use version 7.24.5 or later. Older versions had a vulnerable built-in downloader.

Step 2: Run it

  1. Run v2rayN.exe. If Windows Firewall asks, allow network access.
  2. To use TUN mode (which captures all system traffic), run the app with the Run as administrator option.
  3. If you want the Persian or English language, change it in the interface settings.

Step 3: Add a config

Method A: single link (vless://)

  1. Copy the link.
  2. In the v2rayN window press Ctrl+V, or choose “Import bulk URL from clipboard” from the Servers menu.
  3. The server appears in the list.

Method B: subscription link (Subscription)

  1. From the Subscription group menu, open “Subscription group setting”.
  2. Click add, give it a name and put the subscription link in the URL field, then save.
  3. Click the update subscription option so that the servers come in.

Step 4: Pick a server and connect

  1. Double-click the server you want, or right-click it and click Set as active server.
  2. You can run a delay test (Real delay test) to find the faster server.
  3. Choose the connection mode:
    • System proxy: only apps that respect the Windows proxy settings (browsers).
    • TUN: all system traffic and every app (requires running as Administrator; the Wintun driver is installed on first use).
  4. The app icon in the System Tray shows whether you are connected.

The exact names of the options may differ slightly depending on the version.

Step 5: Set up routing (Routing)

So that local sites do not go through the proxy, pick a ready-made routing rule (for example “Bypass LAN & mainland”, or the rule that suits your region) in the Routing section.

Step 6: Test after connecting

  • Open a “what is my IP” site and see that the IP has changed.
  • Run a DNS leak test (dnsleaktest.com) and an IPv6 test (ipleak.net).

Fixing common issues

Problem Solution
It shows connected but sites do not open Change the VLESS core in the settings from Xray to sing-box. This issue came up in an official report (June 2026) with Xray v26 and Reality. If it continues, ask your provider for a new config.
An old config will not connect If it has allowInsecure, it is no longer supported; get a new config.
TUN does not work Run the app as Administrator and close the old TUN or apps running at the same time.
The antivirus blocks it from running Get the file only from the official GitHub and put the folder in the exclusion list.

Security tips

  • Only enter configs from a provider you know.
  • Keep the app up to date.
  • After every change in the settings, run the leak tests again.
