Why these choices?

v2rayN (Windows, Mac, Linux): a very active project with more than 110,000 stars on GitHub. The Xray core is included in the package, so no separate installation is required. It has a similar interface on all three operating systems, which makes training and support simpler. Its latest release ships the Xray core v26.9.30.

v2rayNG (Android): a sibling client to v2rayN from the same developer, open source and ad-free. Its release files are signed with a GPG key.

Streisand (iOS): free, installed from the App Store, and supports VLESS and REALITY. If you are paying, Shadowrocket (around 4 dollars; the price may change) is still the most popular and most configurable option. V2Box is also free and has announced the Xray core 26.6.27 in its updates.

A few important warnings before you start

  1. allowInsecure no longer works. Since 1 August 2026, Xray has disabled the “skip certificate verification” option (allowInsecure). If you have an old config that contains this option, ask your provider for a new config (with a valid certificate or pinnedPeerCertSha256). Xray version 26.7.11 and later also rejects unencrypted connections.
  2. Make sure to update v2rayN. Versions 7.24.5 to 7.24.9 fixed a security vulnerability in the built-in downloader of older versions (a man-in-the-middle attack could download a malicious file). Install version 7.24.5 or newer and download only from the official GitHub.
  3. Download only from the official source. There are plenty of fake builds of these programs on third-party sites.
  4. Get your config only from a trusted provider. An unknown or free config from random channels can see your traffic.
  5. Test after connecting: check for DNS and IPv6 leaks (DNS leak and IPv6 leak).

Projects I do not recommend

  • Nekoray: discontinued according to the AlternativeTo listing; its successors are NekoBox and Throne.
  • Qv2ray: discontinued.
  • Any anonymous “V2Ray” client in unofficial marketplaces that has no open source or signature.
