v2rayNG is an open-source, ad-free client for Android that runs on the Xray core. Recent versions support Android 7 (API 24) and newer.

Prerequisite: a config link (vless://...) or a subscription link from your service provider.

Step 1: Download from the official source

  1. In your phone's browser, go to github.com/2dust/v2rayNG/releases
  2. Choose the stable (Latest) release. At the time of writing, version 2.2.6 is stable and the 2.3.x versions with the new interface are still Pre-release.
  3. Grab the file that suits your phone:
    • Most newer phones: v2rayNG_2.2.6_arm64-v8a.apk
    • Older 32-bit phones: the armeabi-v7a build
    • fdroid builds are also available for those who use F-Droid.
  4. If you are not sure which one to take, see the file guide in the project Wiki.

Step 2: Install

  1. Open the APK file.
  2. If Android asks, allow “install from this source” for the browser.
  3. Once installed, revoke that permission.

Step 3: Add a config

Option A: Copy the link

  1. Copy the vless://... link.
  2. Open the app and tap + (top).
  3. Choose Import config from Clipboard.

Option B: QR Code

  1. Tap +.
  2. Tap Import config from QRcode and scan the code.

Option C: Subscription link

  1. From the side menu (☰), go to Subscription group setting.
  2. Tap +, enter a name and the URL, then save.
  3. From the top menu, tap Update subscription. In recent versions you can set it so that after updating, a test and automatic removal of broken servers also run.

Step 4: Connect

  1. Tap the server you want in the list so that it is selected.
  2. Tap the round button at the bottom (play icon, ▶).
  3. Android asks once to “create a VPN connection”. Tap OK.
  4. Once you are connected, a key icon appears in the top bar and the button changes colour.
  5. To test response speed, tap the same button while connected (Real delay test).

Step 5: Useful settings

  • Per-app proxy: set exactly which apps go through the VPN.
  • Routing: pick a routing rule so that local sites go without a proxy.
  • Auto connect on start: for automatic connection.
  • Remote DNS: if you have DNS problems, set it to a trusted DNS.

Fixing common problems

Problem Solution
“Connection failed” or 1- delay Switch servers, run the Real delay test, set the phone's time and date correctly (automatic).
Connected but no internet Check the Remote DNS setting and try another server.
An old config will not connect If it has allowInsecure, it is no longer supported; get a new config.
The app closes in the background Remove battery restrictions for v2rayNG (“Unrestricted”).

Security notes

  • Install only from the official GitHub. Project files are signed with a GPG key.
  • Do not enter unknown configs.
  • After connecting, test your IP and DNS leaks in a browser.
